07-08-2012 - O Turismo do Algarve é parceiro da Rota Europeia dos Descobrimentos (DESCUBRITER). Este projecto integra a cultura, a história e o património da navegação, os descobridores e a tradição marítima do Algarve e da Andaluzia.
Do Algarve partem as primeiras expedições de exploração da costa africana que dão início à Era dos Descobrimentos portugueses no séc. XV, com particular relevo para Lagos, Vila do Bispo e Sagres, localidades fortemente ligadas à figura do Infante Dom Henrique, o Navegador.
No início do séc. XVI, a província de Sevilha torna-se porto e porta das Índias, daí partindo e regressando todas as expedições marítimas. Na gesta dos Descobrimentos espanhóis estão Sanlúcar de Barrameda (Cádiz), território logístico e comercial na foz do Guadalquivir, e Palos de la Frontera (Huelva), berço da Descoberta da América.
Estes «territórios dos Descobrimentos», espalhados entre o cabo de São Vicente e Sanlúcar de Barrameda, unem-se agora num projecto que inclui diversas iniciativas de sensibilização e divulgação cultural: um museu virtual dos Descobrimentos, acções de promoção turística a bordo de réplicas de embarcações históricas – nau Victoria e caravela Boa Esperança.
